Thomas Flynn

Archbishop Molloy High School

Thomas Flynn lives in Bayside, Queens and is currently a senior at Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood, Queens. At school, Thomas is a member of the National Honor Society and has consistently received Honors with Distinction for all four years. He is taking a rigorous course load of multiple Advanced Placement courses as well as dual enrollment courses for college credit. One unique course he enjoys is the Virtual Enterprise course in which he and his classmates run a simulated business and compete against other schools in trade shows. Thomas plans to major in business as an undergraduate, with a potential for law and/or MBA studies in graduate school.

Outside of the classroom, Thomas is a member of his school's varsity bowling team. He was also previously on his school's varsity swimming team. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, he is a member of his school's Irish club, Italian club, chess club, science fiction club, and S.M.I.L.E. club. Thomas is an avid e-sports player and has participated in tournaments in NYC and as far south as Georgia.

In his local community of Bayside, Thomas is an altar server at his local parish, Sacred Heart of Jesus. He also serves as an usher at weekend masses. He was a cub scout as well as a boy scout for many years. He enjoys volunteering for his friend's Eagle Scout projects around the Bayside area. In addition to recently acquiring a part-time job, Thomas still has time to volunteer at a local doctor's office as well as help his little brother with homework and study for tests.

Thomas is very proud of his Irish roots and his paternal grandfather, Pop Pop, who was born in Phibsborough, Dublin. Pop Pop passed away right before Thomas's 4th birthday, so he has very limited memories of him. However, one clear memory was going to Pop Pop's house and he would give Thomas and his twin brother Christopher countless tea biscuits. Thomas had the honor of visiting Pop Pop's childhood home on a recent trip to Ireland in 2022. Thomas and his brothers have been serving the annual Bayside St. Patrick's Day Parade mass since its inception in 2018. He has marched in the Bayside parade for many years as part of his local boy scout troop as well as with the NYCDOE Emerald Society in past NYC St. Patrick's Day Parades. Thomas is extremely honored and grateful to be a recipient of the scholarship from the NYCDOE Emerald Society.
